As of 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, decontamination and cleanup activities involving a release of a liquid mixture, which primarily included acetic acid, at the LyondellBasell La Porte Complex continues. Air monitoring continues to show no actionable levels for residents in the area, and we will continue additional monitoring throughout the night.
A full-scale investigation is being conducted by LyondellBasell, health and safety authorities and our industry partners to better understand the details surrounding this event with the aim of preventing a similar incident from occurring. Currently, the cause of the incident remains unknown. Investigators continue to conduct interviews and gather information. The work we do as an industry on safety is very important for us, and we will share our learnings from this incident. We anticipate the investigation may take some time.
As previously stated, two contractors were fatally injured. Thirty workers, who were potentially impacted, were transported to local hospitals for evaluation.
Now, 28 of those individuals have been released. We continue to monitor the conditions of the two remaining individuals who are hospitalized. We are keeping the families and loved ones of the injured in our thoughts, and our prayers go out to them.
We are grieving the loss of our colleagues. Our workforce, and the communities where we operate, are our family, and they are our first priority.
